- Perennial vegetable 150cm
- French Heirloom
- Large fast growing spears
Perennial vegetable growing to 150cm. Old French Heirloom variety. Long thick tender green spears with purple tips and excellent flavour. Can be blanched white. Early maturing, can be picked from the second year (a year earlier than most other varieties).
How to sow and grow:
|Method:||Sow direct or raise seedlings|
|Position:||Part or full sun, moist soil|
|Days to Maturity/flowering:||730 days (2 years)|
|Care:||Male plants produce better thicker spears so female plants should be removed (female plants produce red poisonous berries). Plants die back every winter and re-sprout every spring. Plants should be grown without interference for the first 2 years to establish a strong root structure, once this is done plants will start producing thick spears that can be cut at ground level as they appear. Plants last 20 years or more.|
