Fostering Love And Sharing Hope (FLASH) Australia is a registered charity and public benevolent institution. At Fostering Love and Sharing Hope Australia, our purpose is to provide a safe, welcoming space where people can access therapy and the healing benefits of animals and nature. We inspire growth, nurture resilience, and cultivate hope in people’s lives. Through education, skill-building, and therapeutic programs, we empower people, strengthen relationships, and build a compassionate, connected community; bringing the mission of fostering love and sharing hope to life. We support people of all ages, with many of our participants living with disability, experiencing mental ill health or trauma, or facing family violence, disengagement from education, social isolation and other barriers to participation and wellbeing. Our programs are delivered at Flash Farm, a farm and therapeutic environment in regional Victoria. For more than eight years, Flash Farm has provided a place where people can slow down, feel safe, build trust and develop meaningful connections through animals, nature and hands-on experiences. Participants are supported to build confidence, emotional regulation, social connection, communication, practical life skills and a greater sense of independence.
The seeds will help us grow a productive, therapeutic and community-focused garden at Flash Farm. We use permaculture principles to grow food in ways that support the health of our soil, animals, people and wider environment. Our gardens are an important part of our programs, giving children and young people the opportunity to get their hands in the soil, learn where food comes from and build confidence trying new fruits, vegetables and herbs they may not otherwise encounter. For families experiencing financial or food insecurity, growing fresh produce also provides practical skills and knowledge they can take home and use themselves. Our gardens also contribute to the wellbeing of our animals, providing suitable plants, enrichment and fresh produce where appropriate. Alongside our food gardens, we are developing sensory and nature-based spaces that give participants opportunities to engage with plants through touch, smell, taste and observation. We also want our garden to become a place for connection and sharing. We are building relationships with local schools and community groups, sharing seeds, seedlings, knowledge and gardening experiences so that the impact can extend beyond the farm. A packet of seeds can become a garden, a new food someone is willing to try, a skill a young person takes home, or a plant shared with another member of our community. Ultimately, these seeds will help us grow much more than food. They will help us grow skills, confidence, connection, sustainability and community.
