About Us
Joy of the Earth Community Garden (JOTE) is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit community garden located on Joy Street in Frankston, Victoria. Established in 2012 with the support of Rotary, JOTE has grown into a vibrant community space promoting sustainable gardening, social inclusion, environmental education and community wellbeing. JOTE provides opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to connect with nature, develop gardening skills, grow fresh produce and build meaningful social connections.
Our community
JOTE currently has approximately 60 garden beds, with members contributing to the maintenance and development of both their individual plots and shared garden spaces. Our regular Garden & Gather sessions encourage members to work collaboratively, share knowledge, participate in gardening activities and enjoy social interaction. JOTE also supports community participation through partnerships with local organisations, including the Department of Justice, Natured Kids, Wellways, Focus and other community groups.
At Joy of the Earth Community Garden (JOTE), we plan to use the donated seeds to support our community gardening activities, encourage sustainable food growing and increase participation among members of all ages and abilities. The seeds will be planted in our communal garden beds, accessible raised beds and community orchard areas, helping us grow fresh vegetables, herbs and flowers while supporting biodiversity and pollinators.
We will also use the seeds during our regular Garden & Gather sessions, educational workshops and community events, providing opportunities for members, beginners and visitors to learn about seed sowing, plant care and sustainable gardening practices. Any surplus produce will be shared among members and donated to local community organisations supporting people experiencing food insecurity.
Through this donation, we hope to inspire more people to grow their own food, strengthen community connections and make gardening accessible to everyone.
