Borlotti Bean- Inferno

Phaseolus vulgaris

  • Climbing
  • Great for both dried beans and pods

Climbing bean. Attractive speckled red pods. Pods are excellent eating when young but are more often left to fully mature for dried bean production. The seeds within the pods are used as a dried bean and have an excellent flavour ideal for soups, stews and homemade baked beans. Very productive. Dried beans store very well.

How to sow and grow:

Method: Sow direct
Sowing Depth: 20mm
When: Spring and summer
Germination: 7-10 days @ 21-32°C
Hardiness / Life Cycle: Frost tender Annual
Row Spacing: 100cm
Plant Spacing: 15cm
Position: Full sun, well drained soil
Days to Maturity/Flowering: 60-70 days
*Notes: Plants need a medium to climb over; trellis, A-frame or fence are all popular solutions. Pick regularly to encourage more growth. Pods are best eaten when young and tender. Let pods fully mature if growing for dried beans.
