Attractive red stems with green tops. Tender with mild flavour. Good both raw and cooked. Hardy variety; good for winter. Bunching onions are also known as "Welsh onions", often used as "spring onions" and sometimes incorrectly called "Shallots".

Low germination rate

Had quite a low germination rate with these which is disappointing. Have had great success with the other bunching onions, but not with the red beard. If you buy these seeds, buy at least a couple of packets. You will need the additional seeds as very few of them sprout.
