Description
'Asparagus- UC 157 F2' seeds
Asparagus officinalis
- Perennial vegetable
- Three to five dark green spears per plant
- Popular fresh market variety
Perennial vegetable producing three to five dark green spears that can be harvested from each mature plant. Spears are 1.5-2cm in diameter, uniform in colour and size, naturally sweet and full-flavoured. Popular fresh market variety producing earlier and heavier yields than other varieties. Exhibits typical variability of an F2 generation, including a moderate tolerance to rust and fusarium root rot. Ideal variety for mild climate areas.
Seedlings are very small and should kept in pots, or if planted in their permanent positions, kept well-weeded until they are fully established and mature. Plants mature in 3 years when they will start to produce edible spears. Plants can last 20 years or more.

Plants should be grown without interference for the first 3 years to establish a strong root structure, once this is done plants will start producing thick spears that can be cut at ground level as they appear. Plants last 20 years or more.
