Description

Anemone- De Caen Red

Anemone coronaria

NOT TO TAS, WA

  • Perennial to 40cm
  • Poppy-like red flowers
  • Each corm produces multiple flowers

Herbaceous perennial to 40cm. Light green heavily dissected leaves and strong stems suitable for cutting, with each corm producing multiple stems. The clear red petals fade to a white band towards the centre. The single flowers resemble poppies with prominent black-purple anthers at their centres. Low maintenance once established. Suited to mass planting in drifts in borders and beds as well as containers. An excellent cut flower.

Anemone de Caen are good value corms that bloom over a long period. They feature cup-shaped flowers with dark centres (except white, which has a green centre) and are often used as cut flowers. De Caen anemones are named after the French city where they were first grown. Also known as 'Poppy anemone', 'Florist's anemone', 'Spanish marigold' or 'Windflower'.
