Perennial shrub to 100cm with sprawling habit and multiple branches of rounded blue green foliage. Buds are picked young and pickled in salt and vinegar to produce capers which are often used as a seasoning or garnish and have a pungent salty flavour. If allowed to mature the flowers are white with purple filaments and have great ornamental value. Native to the Mediterranean region Capers grow well in hot dry climates, poor soil conditions and coastal climates. Has a history of medicinal use. Also known as "Flinders Rose".
