Popular vegetable originating in Portugal. Large loose leaf plant grown for its fleshy cabbage style leaves which are traditionally used in soup. Large green leaves with thick white veining and stems. Succulent leaves with a sweet cabbage flavour. More heat tolerant than other brassicas. Also know as "Portuguese cabbage" & "Portuguese kale".


How to sow and grow:

Method: Sow direct or raise seedlings
Sowing Depth: 8mm
When: Summer, autumn and spring (all year in warm climates)
Germination: 3-7 days @ 8-30°C
Hardiness / Life Cycle: Half Hardy Perennial (usually grown as an annual)
Row Spacing: 100cm
Plant Spacing: 80cm
Plant Height: 50cm
Position: Full or part sun, well drained soil
Days to Maturity/Flowering: 80-90 days
*Notes: Cut heads before they flower. Protect from aphids and caterpillars.

Wow, a wonderful leaf cabbage, very productive with a great mild flavour. The stems are edible, crunchy moist and not fibrous like Kale. This leaves (no Pun) curly kale in the dust.
