- Perennial to 120cm

Fennel is a perennial but is often grown as an annual. Sweet Fennel plants produce a small base with long stems and fine feathery foliage. This variety of fennel is most commonly grown for leaves, stems, flowers and seed. This plant produces a small bulb which can also be used as vegetable and can be used either raw or cooked. The leaves are used as a flavouring, garnish and an additional to salads. The seeds are very aromatic with a sweet liquorice flavour and are commonly used as a spice to flavour many dishes both sweet and savory. Sweet Fennel is also known as "Common Fennel".
