Description

Sunflower- Garnet F1

Helianthus annuus

  • Annual to 130cm
  • Flowers have deep rust to chocolate-red petals
  • Branched stems and multiple flowers per plant

A pollen-free annual sunflower growing 130-150cm with branched stems and multiple flowers per plant. Flowers have dark centres and attractive deep rust to chocolate-red petals. Suitable for cut flowers, garden beds and borders and as a bright addition to the vegetable garden. Attracts bees. Flowers over an extended period.

Fleurosun branched sunflowers grow 110-140cm tall with multiple stems and flowers on each plant. They are suited to growing for cut flowers and in garden beds and borders. Pollen-free flowers are suited to people with pollen allergies and when used as cut flowers there's no pollen staining; the flowers still produce nectar and are attractive to nectar-collecting bees. Seeds of this variety will not grow true to type if saved and resown.

Sunflower- Garnet F1Sunflower- Garnet F1Sunflower-

It's actually grown closer to 200cm than 150cm and the colour is more like the last photo with the yellow garnet combination. Sadly only had about a 50% germination success rate growing in pots but I started growing them in winter and lost a few young plants to strong winds and my neighbours smacking balls into my yard, snapping all but 1 plant. I've got one last seed I'll try grow during summer and see if it'll survive. Overall germination rate wasn't as good as I might have hoped but possibly due to my own sowing choices. Grew MUCH taller than advertised which could be a pro or con depending on your space.
