Description

'Eucalyptus- Round Leaved Mallee' seeds

Eucalyptus orbifolia

NOT TO WA, SA & TAS

  • Multistemmed tree to 8m
  • Foliage suited to floristry
  • Ornamental 'minni ritchie' bark

Large shrub or small tree to 8m growing with the multiple stems typical of mallee eucalypts. The silver grey leaves are oval to heart-shaped and 2.5-4cm long; they can be used as a foliage filler in bouquets and other floristry. Flowers are creamy white to pale yellow and bloom in winter and spring. The ornamental 'minni ritchi' bark is reddish brown, continuously peeling and curling to expose the lighter coloured bark on the trunk. Attracts birds.

Native to arid regions in western and central australia, and best suited to areas with dry summers with low humidity. Can be grown in a large container to restrict its height. Also known as 'Disc-leaf Mallee'.

Note: Seeds of many native plants are dormant and will not germinate until ideal environmental conditions are met. Follow instructions for pre-treatment and sowing, and be patient; some wild harvested seeds can take much longer to germinate than expected.

Eucalyptus- Round Leaved MalleeEucalyptus- Round L

I replaced our front lawn with Australian natives during lockdown & have many new birds visiting my garden. I planted all the seeds in the packet & about 30 came up at various times. I picked the best ones & potted 8. I only have room for 3. So I'll find a home for the rest. Give Australian natives a go & see the wildlife come to your garden. Langwarrin VIC 2024
