Annual flowering plant growing to 150cm. Plants are upright with green leaves and produce clusters of white or purple flowers followed by masses of edible seeds. Native to Mexico and Guatemala. Most commonly grown for it's edible seeds which are very nutritious and have numerous culinary uses; can be used raw, soaked or cooked. If growing to maturity Chia is best grown in warm climates. Also known as Mexican Chia.
Chia can also be grown as a sprout(4 days) or microgreen(10-15 days) in any climate.
Because of it's fast germination and rapid growth Chia is also often used in ornamental or novelty grow kits, ie: Chia pets or fairy gardens.
