'Native Hibiscus' seeds

Alyogyne huegelii

Synonyms: Hibiscus huegelii

  • Large mauve/purple flowers
  • Long flowering period
  • Use for screening or as a feature

A fast-growing shrub, 2m high by 2m wide, with bright green deeply lobed leaves and large mauve to purple flowers reminiscent of a hibiscus, which bloom from winter to summer. Like hibiscus, the flowers open and die in a single day. Use as for informal screening, as a feature or to attract butterflies and other insects. Originally from areas with sandy soils in southern Western Australia and South Australia, but will tolerate heavy soils. Grows well in cool to warm temperate climates. Also known as 'Purple Hibiscus' or 'Blue Hibiscus'.

Note: Seeds of many native plants are dormant and will not germinate until ideal environmental conditions are met. Follow instructions for pre-treatment and sowing, and be patient; some wild harvested seeds can take much longer to germinate than expected.
