  • Also known as "Jicama" or "Mexican Turnip".


Tropical legume vine grown for its tuber. Texture is crisp and similar to water-chestnuts with a slightly sweet flavour. Can be eaten fresh or cooked. The root is the only edible part of this plant, flowers & beans are toxic and should NOT be consumed. Also known as "Jicama" or "Mexican Turnip". Long frost -free growing season required to produce large tubers.


How to sow and grow:

Method: Sow direct
Sowing Depth: 5mm
When: Spring or after frost (anytime in warm climates)
Row Spacing: 90cm
Position: Full sun, moist well drained soil.
Plant Spacing: 20cm
Hardiness: Frost tender Perennial (usually grown as an annual)
Days to Maturity/flowering: 150-200 days
*Notes: Keep vine trimmed and remove all flowers and pods to allow plant to put more energy into developing tubers.
