A relative of the Cape Gooseberry but with a low-growing, sprawling habit and a height of 30-60cm. The leaves are large and heart-shaped, and the fruits are a golden colour, 1-3cm round and encased in a papery 'lantern'.
Fruit have a sweet tropical taste and are ripe when husks turn brown and the fruit falls to the ground. Fruit keeps well at room temperature for several weeks. Serve fresh as an accompaniment to cheese, in salsa or made into preserves or jam.

Cossack Pineapple
Best Gooseberry I've ever grown. My neighbour grows another gooseberry and he doesn't like it, but the birds donated it to us - don't get me wrong, love the other seeds the birds brought over, like our trees of Tamarillos! This gooseberry is wonderful. I don't think I would say grow it as groundcover - mine is more like a low bush. Fabulous plant. Grow it everywhere Australia.
